The Big Storm

The sky was gray. The wind was loud. Big rain hit the roof. Sam sat on the rug with his dog, Barnaby. Mom said a storm was coming. They heard a loud siren. It was time to go to the basement.
The lights went out. The house was very dark. Dad found flashlights. They walked down the stairs. They sat on a sofa to wait.
The next day, the power was still off. The TV did not work. Sam could not play games. There was no hot water. Sam and Mom played board games. They ate cold food for lunch. It was like camping at home!
On the third day, the sun came out. The rain stopped. Sam went outside. There were branches on the grass. He helped Dad pick them up. It was hard work. But Sam felt good.
That night, the lights came back on. The fridge made a sound. Sam cheered! He hugged his dog. Sam knew his family was strong. They could do hard things together.
