The Enduring Mystery of Bigfoot

Deep within the dense, mist-shrouded forests of the Pacific Northwest, tales of an elusive, towering creature have captivated human imagination for generations. Known widely as Bigfoot, or by the traditional name Sasquatch, this mysterious figure is usually described as a massive, ape-like being walking upright on two legs. Witnesses often report an imposing stature reaching over eight feet tall, a coat of shaggy dark brown or reddish hair, and an overpowering musky scent that lingers in the air.

Long before modern sightings became sensational media headlines, various Indigenous nations maintained oral traditions about wild beings or giant spirits of the woods. For instance, the word "Sasquatch" derives from Sasq'ets, a term from the Halkomelem language spoken by the Coast Salish peoples of southwestern British Columbia. In many Native American stories, these beings were not viewed merely as terrifying monsters, but rather as powerful guardians of the forest who taught humans to treat the untamed wilderness with caution and deep reverence.
