The Wright Brothers: Taking Flight

Orville and Wilbur Wright were brothers. They liked to learn about how things worked. They lived a long time ago when there were no airplanes. They dreamed of flying!

Bike Shop to Airplanes

The Wright brothers had a shop where they fixed bikes. They used their bike shop to help them build things for their airplanes. They read books about flying. They watched birds to see how they flew. The birds helped them learn.

First Flight

They built a special airplane. It was called the Flyer. It had wings and a motor. On December 17, 1903, they tried to fly it. Orville flew the plane first. The flight was short, but it was the first time a plane flew with a person.

Changing the World

The Wright brothers kept making better airplanes. They showed the world that people could fly. Now, we can fly in big planes to many places. The Wright brothers helped make this happen.
