Who Was Socrates?
Socrates was a very smart man. He lived a long, long time ago in a place called Greece. Greece is a country far away.
A Teacher Who Asked Questions
Socrates was a teacher. But he was not like other teachers. He did not tell his students all the answers. He helped them find the answers themselves. He would ask them questions. These questions made them think. Socrates wanted his students to learn how to think for themselves.
Why Questions?
Socrates thought it was important to ask questions. He thought questions could help people learn. He said that asking questions could help people find out what is true. He wanted people to think about what is right and what is wrong.
Socrates' Big Ideas
Socrates had many big ideas. He thought being good was very important. He thought people should be kind. He wanted people to understand themselves. He wanted people to be happy and good.
Still Important Today
Even though Socrates lived a long time ago, he is still important today. People still read about him. People still learn from his ideas. Asking questions is still a good way to learn, just like Socrates showed us.
