Use the July calendar to plan a reading lesson around a real date, or pick one passage to read together at home. A biography can help readers trace someone’s decisions. A science passage can help them explain how something works. If you have time for several readings, connect them with one question the group can revisit. Space three short summer reading activities across the week. Start by reading for the main idea. At the next reading, return to one paragraph and find a detail that supports it. Finish by retelling the text or comparing it with a second passage. You can use that routine in a summer program or with a family read-aloud. If a topic sparks a good question, browse the Summer Reading collection for a follow-up and ask what the new text adds.
