It was a cold and snowy day outside. Inside, the kitchen was very warm and bright.
Tim and Mia sat at the big table. They had a special kit for a gingerbread house.
Mom helped them put the brown walls up. She used thick white frosting to make them stick.
"Wait for the glue to dry," Mom said with a smile. The frosting looked like sweet, white snow.
Tim picked out some red round candies. He put them in a row on the roof.
Mia had tiny green trees made of sugar. She put them in the front yard of the house.
They used yellow stars for the windows. The house started to look very pretty and bright.
"Can we eat a piece now?" Tim asked. He had a little bit of frosting on his nose.
Mom laughed and shook her head no. "We have to finish the yard first," she said.
Mia found some small white mints. She made a path from the door to the edge.
It looked like a real stone path. Tim added a chocolate bar for the front door.
The kitchen smelled like ginger and cinnamon. It was the best smell in the whole world.
They worked for a long time on the house. Finally, the candy house was all done.
It had a red roof and green trees. It had a chocolate door and a mint path.
"It is too beautiful to eat!" Mia cried. But Tim just licked a candy off his thumb.
Mom took a picture of the kids and the house. They were all very happy and very messy.
The snow kept falling outside the window. But inside, the candy house was safe and sweet.
They cleaned up the sticky frosting on the table. Then they sat down to drink some warm milk.
Tim looked at the little gingerbread house. He knew it would taste very good tomorrow.
"I love making things with you," Mia said. Tim nodded and finished his milk.
It was a perfect day for a candy house. They were proud of their hard work.
