Princess Amara lived in the Kingdom of Prismia, a land once famous for its vibrant colors. However, for three long years, a thick, silver mist had settled over the valley, turning the emerald forests into charcoal gray and the sapphire lakes into dull slate. The legendary Great Rainbow, which used to arch over the castle every afternoon, had completely vanished.
Amara couldn't stand the gloom any longer. Carrying only a small lantern and her father’s old brass compass, she decided to climb the Peak of Radiance. The elders whispered that the rainbow’s source was a hidden crystal at the very top, but most people were too afraid of the mist to try the climb. As she hiked, the air grew chilly, and the silence was heavy. She had to use all her strength to navigate the rocky path, but she refused to turn back.
Near the summit, Amara discovered a small, circular temple made of clear quartz. Inside, sitting atop a marble pedestal, was a dusty, jagged stone. It looked ordinary until Amara used the hem of her royal cloak to wipe away the grime. Suddenly, a tiny spark of violet flickered deep within the stone. It was a dormant prism that needed a direct beam of light to wake up and share its beauty with the world.
Amara looked at the heavy clouds blocking the sun. She realized she couldn't wait for the weather to change. She took her polished brass compass and angled it toward a tiny crack in the temple roof where a single, weak ray of light was peeking through. With a steady hand, she caught the beam and reflected it directly into the heart of the prism.
The effect was instantaneous. A brilliant explosion of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet burst from the temple. The colors sliced through the silver mist like a hot knife through butter. Below, the people of Prismia looked up in wonder as the Great Rainbow returned, more luminous than ever before. Amara smiled, knowing that sometimes, all it takes to find the light is a little bit of reflection.
