Stardust was the only young unicorn in the Whispering Woods whose mane was completely gray. While his friends sported brilliant streaks of sapphire blue and ruby red, Stardust looked like a walking raincloud. The older unicorns assured him that his colors would arrive when the time was right, but Stardust was impatient. He spent his mornings staring into the glassy surface of Crystal Pond, hoping to see a hint of violet or gold in his reflection.
One sunny afternoon, Stardust decided to search for the legendary Sunstone, a mythical gem said to grant any unicorn a spectacular rainbow coat. He trotted past the whispering ferns and headed toward the rocky cliffs of the Whispering Peaks. The path was steep and treacherous, but Stardust’s determination kept him moving forward.
As he climbed, he heard a distressed chirp. Peering over a ledge, he saw a small blue bird trapped beneath a fallen branch. The poor creature was shivering with fear. Stardust forgot all about the Sunstone. He carefully navigated down the slope and used his sturdy horn to nudge the heavy branch aside.
The bird fluttered its wings gratefully, chirping a sweet melody of thanks before flying into the sky. Stardust smiled, feeling a warm, tingling sensation spread from his horn down to his hooves. He didn't realize it, but a soft, glowing stripe of sunny yellow had appeared in his mane.
Continuing his journey, Stardust met an elderly tortoise struggling to carry a load of sweetberries up a hill. Without hesitation, Stardust knelt down and let the tortoise place the berries on his back. Together, they made the slow trek to the tortoise’s home. When they arrived, the tortoise thanked Stardust for his kindness.
As Stardust walked away, the warm feeling returned, stronger this time. He caught a glimpse of himself in a puddle. His gray mane was gone. In its place was a magnificent cascade of vibrant crimson, deep blue, emerald green, and sunny yellow. Stardust realized that the true magic of the rainbow wasn't hidden in a stone; it was sparked by the kindness in his own heart.
