Zog sat in the pilot's seat of the Stardust Scout, his three long fingers tapping rhythmically against the glowing control panel. The buttons hummed with a soft, purple light that matched the tint of his skin. This was his first solo flight across the Nebula of Whispers, and he was determined to make his parents proud. He checked the fuel levels of the liquid-star engine and adjusted his seat, feeling the gentle vibration of the ship beneath him.
Outside the large, curved viewport, the stars looked like spilled sugar against a velvet black cloth. Zog adjusted the navigation dial, making sure to stay clear of the asteroid belts that drifted like sleeping giants in the dark. Suddenly, a small, bright blue planet appeared on his long-range scanner. It was Earth, a place his teachers had often mentioned in Galactic History class. He felt a surge of excitement and curiosity. Zog nudged the steering lever, bringing the ship closer to the swirling white clouds and deep blue oceans.
He wondered what it would be like to walk on a planet with so much water. On his home world, everything was dry, dusty, and red. He watched as the lights of cities began to twinkle on the dark side of the globe as the sun set. They looked like tiny, grounded stars reflecting the sky above. Zog reached for his digital journal to record his observations, but he accidentally bumped the "Stealth Mode" button with his elbow. The ship shimmered and vanished from any potential radar on the planet below.
Even though he was now invisible to the world below, Zog felt a strange connection to the inhabitants of that blue marble. He realized that while the universe was vast and full of empty space, it was also filled with life and light in the most unexpected corners. With a final, lingering glance at the beautiful planet, Zog steered the Stardust Scout back toward his home coordinates, his heart full of new stories to tell.
