A Letter to My Future Self

October 26, 2024

Dear Future Maya,

It's me, you from middle school! I'm writing this letter because our English teacher, Ms. Evans, gave us this cool assignment. We have to write to ourselves ten years from now. It's kind of weird thinking about what life will be like in 2034, but also super exciting.

Right now, I'm really into art. I spend hours drawing in my sketchbook, and I’m taking a pottery class after school. My biggest dream is to become a professional artist or maybe even an animator for movies! Do you remember how much we loved those animated films? I hope you're still creating art, even if it’s just for fun. Are you selling your paintings at galleries? Or working on a cool animated series?

School is… well, school. I like some subjects more than others. Math can be a real challenge, but I’m getting better at it. Science is fascinating, especially anything about space. Remember when we went to the planetarium? That was awesome! I hope you're still learning new things and exploring your interests. Maybe you've even discovered a new passion.

I’m also playing soccer this year, and it's a lot of fun. Our team isn't the best, but we have a great time together. Staying active is important to me, so I hope you're still finding ways to exercise and take care of your body. Maybe you've become a marathon runner! Or perhaps you're into rock climbing.

More than anything, I hope you’re happy. I hope you have good friends, a job you love, and a life that makes you excited to wake up every morning. Don’t forget the people who helped you along the way. Remember Mom, Dad, and my little brother Leo. I hope they're all doing well.

Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. Life is too short to play it safe. Follow your heart, be kind to others, and never stop learning. I’m counting on you to make our dreams come true. I know you can do it!

With love and anticipation,

Maya (from 2024)
