What can bring a block of neighbors together? In many places, one answer is National Night Out.

National Night Out is a time for people who live near one another to meet. Police officers and other local helpers may join them.

Many places hold National Night Out on the first Tuesday in August. In 2027, that day is August 3. Some places hold their events at a different time.

Each place can plan its own event. A group might meet at a park or on a block. There may be games, food, and music.

Many people have jobs to do. Some plan where and when to meet. Others set up tables or bring food to share.

Kids can help, too. They might make signs or help pick up litter. When everyone lends a hand, there is less work for each person.

At the event, neighbors can say hello and learn one another’s names. They can talk about what they like about their block. They can share ideas for keeping it a safe place to live and play.

Police officers may talk with families and answer questions. Neighbors and officers can get to know one another in a friendly way.

After the event, people can keep helping. They might check on a neighbor or work together to clean a park.
