A Sea of Golden Light

November 2, 11:30 PM
Dear Diary,
I am writing this by the steady, golden glow of twenty small glass candles. My notebook is balanced on my knees, and I am sitting cross-legged on a thick woolen blanket right beside my great-grandfatherâs resting place. Before tonight, if someone had told me I would spend midnight in a cemetery, I would have imagined creeping shadows, cold gray fog, and shivering in terror. Movies always make these places seem frightening once the sun goes down. But tonight, our townâs cemetery feels more alive and radiant than any park on a sunny afternoon.
Everything changed the moment we passed through the iron gates after sunset. Instead of darkness, an ocean of amber light welcomed us. Thousands of candles flickered in every direction, illuminating pathways lined with bright orange marigold petals. The fragrance was incredibleâa sweet blend of pungent crushed blossoms, smoky copal incense, and warm spiced chocolate steaming from a thermos Mama brought in her wicker basket.
