Animals of the Wichita Mountains
The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is a special place in Oklahoma. It is home to many wild animals and green plants. Big grassy plains spread out under the blue sky. Rocky hills rise up near clear streams. Many animals find food and safe homes in this big park.
Large American bison walk across the grassy hills. These big animals eat grass and move in large groups. You can also see longhorn cattle with huge horns. Pretty elk walk through the trees and eat green leaves. Small prairie dogs dig long burrows under the ground. They pop up to bark and talk to each other.
Many beautiful birds fly high in the bright sky. Wild turkeys walk on the ground to find seeds. Golden eagles fly high above the rocky hills looking for food. Fish swim in the cool lakes and quiet streams. The refuge protects all of these living things so they can stay safe.
