Leo walked on the crunchy orange leaves. He held his mom's hand as the cool autumn wind blew.

They were visiting Valley Forge Park. Big green hills and bright red trees were all around them.

Leo saw small wooden cabins in the tall grass. "Long ago, brave soldiers lived here in the cold," Dad said.

Leo closed his eyes and tried to picture the past. He imagined smoke rising from small stone chimneys.

He could hear horses stomping in the chilly air. Soldiers sat together near bright fires to stay warm.

Leo opened his eyes and looked at a quiet log cabin. He felt proud to stand on the historic ground.

His sister Maya pointed to a large stone house. "That was General Washington's headquarters," she smiled.

Leo walked up to a small wooden cabin door. He touched the rough wood log with his hand.

He felt like a real history explorer. It was a great autumn day at Valley Forge.
