California's Shining Stars: People Who Made a Difference

California is a state known for its sunny beaches, giant redwood trees, and exciting cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco. But it's also famous for the amazing people who have lived and worked there. Let's meet a few of these shining stars!

Cesar Chavez: Fighting for Farmworkers

Cesar Chavez was a hero to many farmworkers. He was born in Arizona but moved to California with his family when he was young. He saw that farmworkers were not treated fairly. They worked long hours for little pay and didn't have good living conditions. Cesar Chavez believed this was wrong. He started a union, called the United Farm Workers (UFW), to help the workers fight for their rights. He organized marches and boycotts, asking people not to buy grapes picked by farms that didn't treat their workers well. Because of his hard work, farmworkers in California now have better pay and safer working conditions.
