Classroom 4B Opens 'The Museum of Everyday Life'

OAKRIDGE ELEMENTARY — On Tuesday morning, Room 4B officially cut the ribbon on a brand-new temporary exhibit titled "The Museum of Everyday Life." The special display, set up along the perimeter of the classroom, turns ordinary, borrowed household objects into fascinating artifacts for students, teachers, and parents to study.
Rather than showcasing ancient dinosaur bones or famous paintings, the fourth-grade class gathered familiar items from home. The collection includes a dented metal egg beater from the 1960s, a retired rotary telephone, a well-worn leather baseball mitt, and a rusted pocket compass. Each item sits atop a blue felt stand beside a neatly typed label written by a student curator.
Planning for the museum began three weeks ago under the direction of classroom teacher Mr. Alvarez. The project challenged students to practice research and informational writing by studying how ordinary tools solve daily problems or carry personal history. Each student took on a specific museum role, ranging from registrar to tour guide.
