Julia Child loved good food. She was very tall and had a big, warm smile.

When Julia was grown, she moved to the country of France. There, she tasted many new dishes. She loved the flavors so much that she went to cooking school. She learned how to bake fresh bread and make rich sauces.

Julia wanted to share these tasty foods with people back home. Most people in America thought French food was too hard to make. Julia wrote a big cookbook to help them. She explained every step in a simple and clear way.

Next, Julia brought her cooking to television. She had her own TV show where she cooked in front of a camera. Millions of families watched her in their living rooms. They loved to see what she would make next.

Julia was never afraid of making mistakes on camera. Once, a piece of food slipped and fell on the counter. Julia just picked it up, smiled, and kept cooking. She showed everyone that making food should be full of fun.

Julia helped people across America try new recipes in their own homes. She made people feel brave in the kitchen. She always ended her show with a cheerful wish. She smiled and said, "Bon Appétit," which means to enjoy your meal!
