Crater Lake is a very special place in Oregon. It is the deepest lake in the United States.
The water is super deep and very clear. It looks dark blue under the bright sun.
A long time ago, a tall volcano stood here. The big volcano blew up with a loud boom.
Then, the top of the mountain fell in. It made a huge hole called a caldera.
Rain and snow fell into the big hole over many years. The hole filled up with fresh, clean water.
No rivers flow into or out of this lake. Only rain and melting snow keep the lake full.
Many animals live near Crater Lake today. Birds fly high in the sky above the water.
Fish swim deep down in the cold, clear lake. Big trees grow on the rocky hills around it.
