Exploring Earth's Diverse Habitats

Earth's Amazing Habitats
Our planet is home to a stunning variety of habitats, each supporting unique plant and animal life. From the depths of the ocean to the highest mountain peaks, these environments are shaped by climate, geography, and the interactions of living things. Let's explore some fascinating examples.
Coral Reefs: Underwater Cities
Coral reefs are often called the "rainforests of the sea" because of their incredible biodiversity. These vibrant ecosystems are built by tiny animals called corals, which secrete a hard skeleton that forms the reef structure. Coral reefs are found in warm, shallow waters and provide shelter and food for countless species of fish, invertebrates, and marine mammals. However, they are also extremely sensitive to changes in water temperature and pollution, making them vulnerable to climate change.
Savannas: Grasslands of Adventure
Savannas are grasslands with scattered trees, typically found in tropical regions. These habitats experience distinct wet and dry seasons, shaping the plant and animal life that can survive there. Large herbivores like zebras, giraffes, and elephants roam the savannas, feeding on grasses and leaves. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas hunt these herbivores, creating a complex food web. Fire also plays an important role in maintaining savanna ecosystems, preventing forests from taking over.
