Joe Sakic was born on July 7, 1969, in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. From a young age, Joe loved playing hockey. He started playing when he was just four years old! He practiced a lot and dreamed of playing in the NHL (National Hockey League) someday.
Junior Hockey Star
Before joining the NHL, Joe played junior hockey for the Swift Current Broncos. He was an incredible player there. In his last season with the Broncos, he scored 78 goals and made 82 assists, totaling 160 points! People knew he was going to be a star.
NHL Career
In 1988, Joe Sakic was drafted into the NHL by the Quebec Nordiques. He quickly became the team's best player. In 1995, the team moved to Denver, Colorado, and became the Colorado Avalanche. Joe stayed with the team and became their captain. As captain, he led the Avalanche to win two Stanley Cups in 1996 and 2001.
