Join Oakridge Elementary for World Cleanup Day!

Attention Oakridge Families and Students!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 20! Our school is proud to participate in World Cleanup Day, a global event where millions of volunteers across more than 190 countries unite to remove litter and protect our planet. Together, we can make our neighborhood park and school grounds cleaner, safer, and more beautiful.
Event Details:
- Date: Saturday, September 20
- Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Meeting Spot: Oakridge Elementary Main Courtyard
- Who: Students, family members, teachers, and neighbors (Students must be accompanied by an adult)
What We Will Do: Volunteers will divide into small teams led by teacher chaperones. Each team will focus on a designated zone, including the school soccer fields, the playground, and the walking trails around Maple Creek Park. We will collect discarded plastics, aluminum cans, and paper waste. At the end of the morning, our science club will weigh the collected trash to measure our collective impact before sorting items into recycling bins.
What to Bring and Wear:
- Sturdy, closed-toe sneakers or hiking boots (no sandals or flip-flops allowed).
- A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated (water refill stations will be available).
- Sun protection: hats and sunscreen are strongly recommended.
- Gardening gloves, if you have a pair at home. The school will provide biodegradable trash bags, safety vests, and litter grabbers for all participants.
Safety First: Safety is our top priority. Never touch broken glass, sharp metals, or unidentifiable containers. If you spot anything that looks hazardous, do not pick it up. Instead, report it immediately to your adult team leader.
Join us for a morning of teamwork, fresh air, and community service. Complimentary fruit and juice boxes will be provided at the finish line! Please sign up at the main office or register through the school website by Wednesday, September 17. Let’s work together to make a lasting difference!
