Narrator: Anna walks up to Ranger John in the park. She points to a bear sign.

Anna: Hi, Ranger John! Why is there a bear sign here?

Ranger John: Hi, Anna! We are in Whitefish. Bears live in these woods. We must keep them safe.

Anna: Wow! Are they grizzly bears?

Ranger John: Yes, they are. Grizzly bears need lots of space to live and play.

Anna: How do we stay safe when we hike?

Ranger John: Stay on the trail. Walk with a friend and make noise. That way, you do not scare a bear.

Anna: Can we leave food on the picnic table?

Ranger John: No, food attracts bears! Put your trash in bear-safe cans.

Narrator: Anna puts her trash in a big metal can with a latch.

Anna: I want to help protect the bears and their home!

Ranger John: Great job, Anna! You are a great park helper.
