How long is your foot? Ask an adult to help you find out.

You will need:

  • A large sheet of paper
  • A pencil
  • A plain ruler with inch marks

Steps

  1. Put the paper on a flat, stable floor. Take off one shoe and sock.

  2. Stand with one foot flat on the paper. Hold still while the adult traces around your foot with the pencil.

  3. Step off the paper. Find the back of the heel and the tip of the longest toe on the outline.

  4. With the adult, make a small mark at each of these two points. The longest toe is not always the big toe.

  5. Lay the ruler from the heel mark toward the toe mark. Put the ruler’s zero mark at the heel mark, not the end of the ruler.

  6. Look at where the toe mark meets the ruler. Read the number of inches there. If it falls between inch marks, ask the adult to help you read it.

  7. Write the number on the paper. Then measure your other foot the same way.

  8. Compare the two numbers. Is one greater, or are they the same?

Feet can be different lengths. That is okay!

Foot length alone does not tell you if a shoe will fit. A shoe needs to feel good around your whole foot.
