My Cusco Diary: The Sun Festival
June 23
Today is a busy day in Cusco. My family is getting ready for the big sun party.
It is called Inti Raymi. We honor the sun god today.
My mom made me a pretty dress. It has bright red and yellow wool.
I help my dad clean the yard. We want everything to look nice.
I can hear music in the streets. Flutes play a happy tune.
I am too excited to sleep tonight. Tomorrow the sun will shine on us.
June 24
Today was the best day ever. The sun came up big and bright.
We walked to the big stone fort. It is called Sacsayhuamán.
There were so many people there. Everyone wore bright colors.
We saw the Inca king. He wore a gold crown that shined.
He thanked the sun for the corn. He asked for a good year.
We danced and sang all day. My feet are very tired now.
I love living in Cusco. Goodnight, sun!
