Nature's Amazing Parents
In the wild, baby animals need a lot of help to survive. Just like human parents, many animal parents work hard to keep their babies safe, warm, and well-fed. This help is called parental care. Not all animals look after their young, but those that do have many interesting ways of doing it.
Mammals are some of the most dedicated parents in the animal kingdom. When a mammal is born, it usually stays very close to its mother. This is because mammals produce milk to feed their babies. A mother bear, for example, will spend the whole winter in a cozy den with her cubs. She keeps them warm with her thick fur and protects them from hungry predators. By the time spring arrives, the cubs are strong enough to follow her outside and learn how to find food for themselves.
