Pachacuti: The Earth-Shaker of the Andes
Long ago, high in the Andes Mountains of South America, a small kingdom called Cusco faced a terrible danger. An aggressive enemy tribe known as the Chanca was marching toward the city. The elderly king and his chosen heir fled in fear. But one brave young prince refused to run. His name was Cusi Yupanqui. Armed with courage and a brilliant mind, he stayed behind to defend his homeland.
Cusi Yupanqui rallied the remaining Cusco warriors. According to legend, he fought so fiercely that even the stones rose up to fight alongside him. Against all odds, the young prince defeated the invaders and saved his people. Following this incredible victory, he was crowned the new emperor in 1438. He took the name Pachacuti, which translates to "He Who Overturns the Earth" or "Earth-shaker." It was a fitting name for a leader who was about to change South American history forever.
