Hi everyone,

I hope your week is going smoothly. With Friday morning's science showcase just three days away, I wanted to send an update on where we stand with our three-dimensional rain-garden model. Mr. Alvarez reminded our class this morning that setup begins promptly at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria, so we will not have time to finish building or painting on Friday. Everything must be completely assembled, dry, and ready to demonstrate before we walk into the building that day.

Here is a quick summary of what we have already finished. The clear plastic storage bin that serves as our cross-section base is cleaned, taped along the edges for safety, and marked with inch lines so viewers can see layer depths. Lucas and I finished drilling the drainage test holes along the base last Monday, and the silicone sealant around the drain tube set completely over the weekend. That means our primary structure is solid.

runoff:
Water from rain or melted snow that flows over the ground surface rather than soaking into soil.
permeable:
Allowing liquids or gases to pass through.
geotextile:
A synthetic fabric used in civil engineering and gardening to stabilize soil and allow water drainage.
perennials:
Plants that live and bloom for multiple years rather than dying after one season.
