Reaching for the Top Leaves

Barnaby was a young brachiosaurus. He had four thick legs and a long neck.

Pip was his best friend. Pip was a young brachiosaurus too.

The warm sun shone down on the green valley. Giant ferns grew on the damp ground.

Barnaby and Pip walked to a very tall tree. High up at the top, the leaves were shiny and bright green.

"Those leaves look sweet," said Barnaby. His tummy made a loud rumble.

Pip looked up at the sky. "They are the tastiest leaves in the forest," Pip agreed.

Barnaby stretched his neck as high as he could. He stood up on his tiptoes.

His nose only brushed the lowest branch. He could not reach the top leaves.

Next, Pip tried to reach the food. Pip stretched and stretched toward the clouds.

Pip was still an inch too short. Both young dinosaurs let out a soft sigh.

"We are not big enough yet," Barnaby said sadly.

Pip looked around the grass. Pip saw a thick, sturdy log near the tree trunk.

"Look over there!" Pip called out. "We can move that log together."

Barnaby wagged his heavy tail. The two friends pressed their shoulders against the big log.

They pushed with all their might. They huffed and puffed together in the dirt.

The log rolled slowly across the mossy ground. It stopped right next to the tree.

Barnaby stepped his front feet onto the log. Pip climbed up right next to him.

Together, the two dinosaurs raised their long necks. This time, they were tall enough!

Barnaby gently bit off a leafy twig. Pip pulled down another bunch of juicy leaves.

The green leaves tasted sweet and crisp. Barnaby and Pip chewed together happily in the warm sunshine.
