Shelly's Sea Turtle Rescue
Shelly loved the ocean more than anything. She lived in a small cottage right on the beach, and every morning, she would run down to the water to see what treasures the tide had brought in. Shells, seaweed, and sometimes even small sea creatures washed ashore.
One sunny morning, Shelly found something different. It wasn't a shell or a piece of driftwood. It was a sea turtle! But this turtle wasn't moving. Shelly gently scooped it up. It was small, with a cracked shell, and it looked very weak.
"Oh, you poor thing," Shelly whispered. She carefully carried the turtle back to her cottage. She filled a small tub with seawater and gently placed the turtle inside. It didn't move much. Shelly knew she had to help.
Shelly called the local marine rescue center. "I found a sea turtle on the beach," she said. "It's hurt, and I don't know what to do."
The person on the phone told her to keep the turtle in a safe place and keep the water clean. They said they would send someone over to pick it up. Shelly felt relieved.
While she waited, Shelly researched sea turtles online. She learned about what they eat, where they live, and the dangers they face. She was surprised to learn that sea turtles are endangered, meaning there aren't many left in the world. This made her even more determined to help this little turtle.
Finally, the rescue team arrived. They carefully examined the turtle. "It looks like it was hit by a boat," one of them said. "We'll take it back to the center and give it the care it needs."
Shelly felt a mix of sadness and hope. She was sad to see the turtle go, but she was hopeful that it would get better. She named the turtle Lucky.
Weeks later, Shelly received a call from the rescue center. "Lucky is doing much better," they said. "We're planning to release him back into the ocean next week. Would you like to be there?"
Shelly's heart leaped with joy. "Yes!" she exclaimed. "I wouldn't miss it for the world!"
The day of the release was beautiful. Shelly stood on the beach with the rescue team, watching as they carefully placed Lucky on the sand. For a moment, Lucky didn't move. Then, slowly, he started to crawl towards the ocean. He slipped into the water and swam away, stronger and healthier than before.
Shelly smiled. She knew she had done something good. From that day on, she continued to watch the beach, always ready to help any sea creature in need. She felt like a guardian of the sea, protecting the creatures she loved so much.
