Should Siblings Be Treated Equally?

While every child has different needs, treating siblings fairly and without favoritism is essential for building a peaceful, loving home, a principle strongly supported by the Bible.
First, history and biblical stories show that picking favorites among children creates division and bitterness. A clear example from the Bible is found in the book of Genesis with the family of Jacob. Jacob showed clear favoritism toward his son Joseph, even giving him a beautiful, special coat. Because Jacob made it obvious that he loved Joseph more, Joseph’s brothers became deeply jealous and resentful. Their anger eventually broke the family apart for many years. This story serves as a powerful warning. When one child receives special privileges or affection over another, it creates conflict between brothers and sisters.
