Spokane vs. Tacoma: Which City Wins the Crown?

Choosing a city to visit or live in can be tough! Today, we're comparing two awesome cities in Washington State: Spokane and Tacoma. Which one is better? Let's dive in and see!

Spokane: The Lilac City

Spokane is nicknamed the "Lilac City" because of its beautiful lilac bushes that bloom every spring. It's located in eastern Washington, surrounded by nature.

  • Nature and Outdoors: Spokane has Riverfront Park, right in the middle of downtown. It was created for the 1974 World's Fair. You can ride a carousel, see the Spokane Falls, and even ride a gondola over the river! Also, you can find many lakes to swim or boat and mountains to hike.
  • History and Culture: Spokane has many historical buildings and museums. The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture is a great place to learn about the region's history and art. There are also local art galleries and theaters where you can watch plays and concerts.
  • Cost of Living: Spokane is generally more affordable than Tacoma. Housing and everyday expenses are usually lower, which can be a big plus.

Tacoma: The City of Destiny

Tacoma sits on Puget Sound, in western Washington. It's known for its beautiful waterfront and its views of Mount Rainier.

  • Waterfront and Views: Tacoma's Ruston Way waterfront is perfect for walking, biking, and enjoying views of the water. You can also see Mount Rainier on a clear day! Point Defiance Park offers beaches, gardens, and even a zoo and aquarium.
  • Art and Museums: Tacoma is famous for its art scene. The Museum of Glass is a must-see, with amazing glass art creations. The Tacoma Art Museum has a diverse collection of art from different cultures and time periods.
  • Job Opportunities: Because of its location, Tacoma has jobs in shipping, manufacturing, and the military.
