The Big Leaf Pile
Leo looks out the window. The autumn wind blows cool and crisp.
Leaves float down from the tall trees. They are red, orange, and bright yellow.
Leo pulls on his warm blue coat. His little dog, Pip, wags his tail.
"Come on, Pip!" says Leo. "Let us go outside and play."
Leo takes a big rake to the yard. He gathers the dry leaves into a pile.
Pip runs in circles around the grass. He barks at a yellow leaf that drifts past his nose.
Leo rakes more and more leaves. Soon, the pile is as tall as his waist.
"Look at this giant hill of leaves," Leo giggles. Pip sits down and tilts his head.
Leo takes three big steps back. Then, he runs as fast as his feet can go.
Jump! Leo lands right in the middle of the soft pile.
Crunch, crunch, crunch! The leaves make a loud, fun sound.
Pip jumps in right after Leo. Leaves fly up into the air like colorful paper.
Leo laughs and hugs his happy pup. Autumn is the best time of the year to play.
