Every spring, something amazing happens here. Many old animals come out of the bay.
These animals are called horseshoe crabs. They look like hard hats with long tails.
They have lived on Earth for a very long time. They are even older than dinosaurs!
The crabs crawl onto the wet sand. They come to lay their tiny green eggs.
At the same time, thousands of birds fly in. These birds are called shorebirds.
They have been flying for many days. They are very tired and very hungry.
The birds stop at Bombay Hook to rest. They need food to get strong again.
They love to eat the crab eggs. The eggs give the birds energy to fly.
This big event happens every single year. It is a safe home for birds and crabs.
