Leo stared at the crumpled heap of cardboard and tape in the middle of his living room floor. It was supposed to be a magnificent medieval castle for their fifth-grade history project. Instead, it looked like a giant foot had stepped on it.

"We are doomed," Leo groaned, slumping onto the couch. "The project is due tomorrow morning, and our fortress is a flat pancake."

Maya, his best friend and project partner, knelt beside the wreckage. Instead of panicking, she examined the folded cardboard with a thoughtful frown. "It’s not doomed, Leo. The towers just lacked structural support. We used too much heavy tape on the top and not enough strong cardboard at the base."

Leo sighed. He was the creative one, always dreaming up grand ideas like working drawbridges and painted banners. Maya, on the other hand, was the engineer. She loved math, measurements, and making sure things actually stood upright.

"Can we fix it in time?" Leo asked, looking at the clock. They had exactly two hours before dinner.

"Easily," Maya said, offering him a reassuring smile. "But we have to work together. I’ll design a sturdier foundation using these extra shoeboxes, and you can paint the brick patterns and make the flags."

For the next ninety minutes, the living room was a whirlwind of activity. Maya measured and taped the shoeboxes, creating a rock-solid base that wouldn't budge. Leo used his markers to transform the plain cardboard into ancient, weathered stone walls. He even crafted tiny paper knights to guard the ramparts.

By the time Leo's mom called them for dinner, the castle stood tall and proud on the coffee table. It was stronger than before, and it looked spectacular.

"See?" Maya said, nudging Leo's shoulder. "Your art made it look real, and my engineering kept it standing."

Leo grinned, incredibly grateful for his friend's calm attitude and clever mind. "A perfect alliance," he agreed.
