The Great Pumpkin Patch Ambush
According to neighborhood legend, the creature roaming Oak Street on Halloween night was no ordinary pest. Kids called him the Masked Bandit, a plump raccoon with silver-tipped fur and an unmatched talent for sneaking into plastic jack-o'-lanterns. While other animals were satisfied tipping over metal trash cans, this particular raccoon only targeted miniature chocolate bars and chewy fruit candies.
Ten-year-old Oliver and his younger brother Henry were determined to protect their hard-earned Halloween haul. After walking three miles in itchy costumesâOliver as a medieval knight and Henry as a cardboard astronautâthey refused to let their treasure vanish into the night.
"We need a strategy that uses physics, not just luck," Oliver declared, spreading a sheet of graph paper across the kitchen table. He sketched a blueprint for what he titled the Raccoon Retrieval Device 3000.
Henry nodded solemnly, adjusting his cardboard astronaut helmet. "It has to be gentle, though. We want to catch him red-handed, not hurt him."
