The story of the Red Buses began in the 1930s. The White Motor Company built the vintage vehicles specifically to navigate the steep, winding roads of Glacier National Park. Designed with a flexible canvas top that could be rolled back on sunny days, the buses allowed passengers to gaze up at the high mountain peaks without any obstruction. The nickname "Jammer" came from the sound the original drivers made while shifting gears on the steep mountain slopes. Drivers had to double-clutch, which often caused the heavy metal gears to grind or "jam."
