The Kitten Did My Homework!

It was report card day, and Max felt like a tiny bug under a giant magnifying glass. He clutched his math homework, a crumpled mess with more eraser marks than actual answers. Mrs. Davis, his teacher, called his name. "Max Peterson?" she said, peering over her glasses.

Max shuffled to her desk, his shoes squeaking nervously. He handed her the homework. Mrs. Davis raised an eyebrow. "Max, this looks… incomplete. And messy."

Max swallowed hard. This was it. The moment of truth. "Well, Mrs. Davis," he began, his voice barely a whisper, "my kitten, Whiskers, did my homework."

A few giggles rippled through the classroom. Mrs. Davis's eyebrow went even higher.

"Whiskers? Your kitten?" she asked, trying to keep a straight face.

Max nodded. "Yes, ma'am. You see, I left it on the table, and she… she really liked the paper. She batted it around, and then she started chewing on it. And then she fell asleep on it. So, it's her fault I got a C-."

Mrs. Davis sighed. "Max, I appreciate your… creativity. But kittens can't do homework. This looks like you waited until the last minute and rushed through it."

"But it's true!" Max insisted. "I can prove it! Whiskers even left a little… hairball on question number three!"

Mrs. Davis looked at the homework again. Sure enough, there was a small, fuzzy clump near question number three. She couldn't help but smile. "Alright, Max," she said. "I'll give you a chance to redo it. But this time, keep Whiskers away from your assignments."

Max grinned. "Thank you, Mrs. Davis! I promise, next time it'll be purr-fect!"

That afternoon, Max sat at his desk with his homework. Whiskers watched from the floor, twitching her tail. Max carefully put the homework on a high shelf, far out of Whiskers' reach. He learned a valuable lesson: kittens are cute, but they make terrible excuses.
