Sir Rowan strolled through the castle gates, his long forest-green cloak fluttering gently in the morning breeze. High above, the castle's two round stone towers stood proudly against the pale blue sky. It was a lovely day for the annual summer picnic, and colorful banners already decorated the distant village square. However, as Rowan crossed the meadow toward the bubbling brook, he noticed someone in trouble.

Master Finch, the castle gardener, knelt by the little wooden footbridge with a deep frown. At his feet lay two broken, splintered oak planks. Without the bridge, the villagers carrying heavy baskets of sweet berry pies, roasted corn, and fresh cider would not be able to cross the muddy stream safely.

"Good morning, Master Finch," Rowan called out with a warm smile. "What seems to be the trouble?"

Finch sighed, brushing dirt from his leather apron. "A heavy cart cracked the middle boards early this morning, Sir Rowan. The picnic starts in just two hours. I cannot carry the replacement timber from the shed and secure it all by myself in time."

"Then we shall solve this together," Rowan replied, unfastening his green cloak and draping it neatly over a nearby rock.

Rowan jogged to the garden shed and hauled two heavy, freshly cut pine beams across the grass. Meanwhile, Finch gathered his iron nails, a wooden mallet, and a hand saw. Working side by side, the pair made quick progress. Rowan used his strength to hold the thick beams firmly against the stone foundation so they would not wobble. Finch, with years of skilled craft, measured the gap precisely and tapped the iron fasteners deep into the wood until each board sat completely flush.

By noon, the bridge was sturdier than ever. Finch gave the final plank an approving pat, smiling broadly. Just then, cheerful chatter drifted from the forest path as the first villagers arrived with their picnic baskets. Rowan fastened his cloak back onto his shoulders and stepped back with Finch, delighted to watch their neighbors safely cross into the sunny meadow.
