The Missing Christmas Ornament

Mia loved Christmas time. She made a special ornament at school.
It was a little pinecone owl with bright yellow yarn wings. Mia wanted to hang it high on the big green tree.
She opened her craft box. The pinecone owl was not there!
Mia looked under the red sofa. She only found a blue crayon and a ball of fuzz.
Mia checked the kitchen counter. She only saw a plate of sweet holiday cookies.
"Where is my little owl?" Mia asked. Dad smiled and pointed down the hall.
Mia walked softly to the sunny rug. Her little brown puppy, Pippin, was taking a cozy nap.
Pippin had tucked the soft yarn owl under his chin like a tiny pillow. His tail gave a gentle thump in his sleep.
Mia giggled very quietly. She gave Pippin a gentle pat on his head.
"You can cuddle my owl until you wake up," Mia whispered. Then they would hang it on the tree together.
