Detective Leo wore his shiny silver badge. He looked at the scene in the garden.
Someone had ruined the big snow snowman overnight. His frosty head was knocked to the ground.
"This is a terrible crime," Leo told his cat, Pip. Leo looked for clues in the white snow.
He saw big boot prints near the fence. "Aha!" Leo said. "The thief had big shoes!"
Leo followed the boots down the dirt path. He thought the garden bandit was old Mr. Green.
Mr. Green always wore giant boots. Leo knocked loudly on Mr. Green's door.
Mr. Green opened the door and smiled. He was wearing soft red slippers.
"My boots were stolen from my porch last night!" Mr. Green said. Leo gasped at the sudden surprise.
Just then, they heard a loud snap by the old shed. Leo followed the strange new tracks.
They were not human feet at all. They were long bunny hops that wore heavy boots!
Leo opened the dark shed door slowly. Two bright pink eyes stared back from the shadows.
