The Mystery of the Missing Lime!

Once upon a time, in the sunny Florida Keys, lived a baker named Lila. Lila was known for baking the most amazing Key lime pies. Her secret was a special lime tree in her backyard, full of juicy, tiny Key limes. These limes were the perfect mix of sweet and tart, making her pies famous throughout the islands.

One morning, Lila woke up and rushed to her backyard, ready to pick some fresh limes. But, oh no! All the limes were gone! The tree was bare. Lila gasped. "Who could have taken my limes?" she wondered. Without her special limes, she couldn't bake her famous pies!

Lila decided to investigate. She looked for clues around the tree. She found tiny footprints leading away from the tree and a small, green feather. "Hmm," she thought, "a bird, maybe? But the footprints… they’re too big for a bird!"

She followed the footprints to the beach. There, she saw her friend, Captain Joe, a friendly pelican with a silly grin. Next to him was a mountain of Key limes! Lila frowned, then noticed Joe was using the limes to decorate a huge sandcastle. The footprints were Joe’s!

"Captain Joe!" Lila exclaimed. "Did you take all my limes? I need them for my pies!"

Captain Joe looked surprised. "Oh, Lila! I am so sorry! I just wanted to make my sandcastle extra special. I didn't know you needed these limes!"

Lila smiled. "Well, I do need them. But maybe… we can share. How about I bake a big Key lime pie, and we can all enjoy it at your amazing sandcastle?"

Captain Joe's eyes lit up. "That would be wonderful, Lila! Thank you!"

And so, Lila and Captain Joe became the best of friends. Lila baked the biggest, most delicious Key lime pie ever, and everyone on the beach enjoyed a slice while admiring Captain Joe's lime-decorated sandcastle. From that day on, Captain Joe always asked before borrowing Lila's limes, and Lila always made sure to save a slice of pie for her feathered friend.
