The Peppery Cookie Surprise
Mia and Leo wanted to bake Christmas cookies. Outside, soft white snow fell on the ground. The kitchen smelled like warm butter and milk. Mia placed a big blue mixing bowl on the counter. Leo gathered the measuring spoons and pans.
They mixed the flour and butter with wooden spoons. Leo reached for the dark spice jar on the shelf. He scooped two big spoons of brown powder into the bowl. Soon, the cute star-shaped cookies were hot in the oven. Mia took a tiny nibble of one cookie when it cooled. Her eyes grew wide, and her nose wiggled in surprise. Leo had picked up black pepper instead of sweet cinnamon!
The cookies tasted spicy and very silly. Leo frowned, but Mia smiled and had a bright idea. They could not eat pepper cookies, but they could turn them into art. Mia brought out paintbrushes and tubes of bright red paint. Leo found shiny green ribbons in a craft box. Together, the two friends painted the stars and tied loops on top. They hung their colorful cookie ornaments on the Christmas tree.
