Maya adjusted the yellow hard hat on her head and stepped carefully into the Oak Street Youth Center. The building was undergoing a major renovation, and Maya was spending Saturday shadowing her aunt, Sofia, who was a master electrician.

"Every trade worker is like a musician in an orchestra," Aunt Sofia explained, unrolling a large set of blueprints across a portable workbench. "If the carpenter, the plumber, and the electrician don't harmonize, the whole building falls out of tune."

Maya watched the bustling room with wide eyes. In one corner, a carpenter named Marcus measured sturdy wooden beams with a tape measure. He made quick, precise pencil marks before cutting each piece with the smooth whir of his saw. Across the room, a plumber named Leo was fitting copper pipes together with brass connectors, making sure clean water would flow safely to the new drinking fountains.

"Now it is our turn," Sofia said, handing Maya a flashlight. Aunt Sofia needed to thread new wires through metal tubes called conduits, which protected electrical lines inside the walls. Maya illuminated the dark opening beneath an access panel while Sofia guided a flexible metal tape through the hollow pipe from the hallway.

"Catch the end when it pokes through!" Sofia called out.

Maya focused intently. A small silver hook popped out from the metal pipe. "Got it!" she shouted, gently pulling the guide wire through. Working together, they pulled three color-coded wires through the wall and carefully fastened them into a brand-new breaker box.

When Sofia flipped the main switch, the overhead ceiling fixtures burst to life, bathing the dusty gym in crisp, bright light. Marcus and Leo cheered from across the room.

Maya looked around at the straight wooden walls, the gleaming pipes, and the glowing lights. It took real skill, mathematics, and teamwork to bring a dark, empty space back to life. She smiled, already wondering which tool she would learn to use first.
