The Slow Road to the Clouds
Aarav stared at the tiny blue steam engine chugging on the narrow metal tracks. It looked more like a toy from his playroom than a real train. This was the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a historic treasure built over a hundred years ago. Aarav’s family was boarding the train in New Jalpaiguri, ready for a slow, winding journey up into the misty mountains.
"Are we really going to take all day to travel just eighty kilometers?" Aarav asked, pulling on his mother’s sleeve.
His mother smiled and patted his shoulder. "This isn't a modern bullet train, Aarav. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The joy is in the journey, not just the destination. You'll see."
As the conductor blew a loud, cheerful brass whistle, the train lurched forward with a gentle clack-clack. White steam puffed from the engine, swirling past the open windows. Aarav and his sister, Maya, leaned close to the window, feeling the cool mountain air replace the warm plains below.
