It felt natural to assume that flooding a child’s bloodstream with quick fuel would lead to an overflow of physical energy.

Furthermore, high-sugar foods are typically served at events that are already loud, unstructured, and stimulating, such as birthday parties, amusement parks, and sporting events. The excitement, social interaction, and sensory overload of these environments naturally elevate adrenaline levels and physical activity. In addition, certain sugary treats, such as chocolate or colas, contain caffeine, a stimulant that genuinely affects the central nervous system. When children act wildly in these settings, adults frequently mistake correlation for causation, assigning blame to the frosting rather than the festive atmosphere.

While excessive sugar consumption carries genuine health consequences—such as dental cavities, metabolic strain, and nutritional imbalances—the classic "sugar high" remains a biological myth. Recognizing the difference between scientific evidence and common folklore allows us to better understand how both the human body and human perception truly work.
