Tico's First Flight

Characters:

  • Tico: A young, scared toucan
  • Mama Toucan: Tico's mother, encouraging and patient

(Scene: A toucan nest high in a rainforest tree. Tico sits huddled in the nest, looking down with wide eyes. Mama Toucan stands at the edge of the nest, looking out at the sky.)

Mama Toucan: (Softly) Tico, my little one, look at the sunrise. Isn't it beautiful?

Tico: (Shivering) It's… it's very high, Mama.

Mama Toucan: (Chuckles gently) That's because we're high up in the tallest tree, Tico. It gives us the best view!

Tico: But… but flying down seems so… so far.

Mama Toucan: (Sits beside him, nudging him with her wing) It's not as far as it seems. Remember all the practice flapping you've been doing?

Tico: (Looks at his wings) I remember, but what if I fall? What if I'm not strong enough?

Mama Toucan: (Smiles warmly) You are strong enough, Tico. I know it. And I'll be right there beside you, flying along. You won't be alone.

Tico: (Looks out at the sky again, then back at his mother) But what if I mess up?

Mama Toucan: (Takes his wing in hers) There’s no such thing as messing up, Tico. Every bird stumbles the first time, but then they spread their wings and try again. And again. It's how you learn.

Tico: (Takes a deep breath) Okay… Okay, I’ll try.

Mama Toucan: That’s my brave little toucan! Now, spread your wings wide. Feel the wind beneath them.

(Tico hesitates, then stretches his wings out slowly. Mama Toucan does the same, demonstrating.)

Mama Toucan: Now, take a leap of faith!

(Tico closes his eyes, then jumps. He flaps his wings clumsily at first, wobbling in the air. Mama Toucan flies beside him, encouraging him.)

Mama Toucan: You’re doing it, Tico! You’re flying! Just keep flapping, keep your eyes on me!

(Tico opens his eyes and sees his mother beside him. He focuses on her, flapping harder. He starts to gain confidence.)

Tico: (Laughing) I'm flying, Mama! I'm really flying!

Mama Toucan: (Beaming) I knew you could do it! Now, let's soar through the rainforest together!

(Tico and Mama Toucan fly off into the sunrise, Tico’s initial fear replaced with joy and confidence.)
