The Birth Home on Auburn Avenue
The journey through Dr. King's life begins at 501 Auburn Avenue. This two-story Queen Anne-style house is where Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. Growing up in this warm, supportive home, young Martin learned about love, family, and Christian values. At the time, segregation laws kept Black and white people apart in many public spaces. Despite these unfair laws, Martin's parents taught him that he was equal to anyone else.
