What Is National Forget-Me-Not Day?

Every autumn, right before the nation pauses to honor military service, a small blue flower carries a big message. Some U.S. holiday calendars list November 10 as National Forget-Me-Not Day, an informal day of remembrance and awareness. While it is not an official government holiday where schools and banks close, this observance invites communities to recognize and support wounded and disabled veterans.
To understand why this day matters, it helps to know what the word veteran means. A veteran is a person who has served in the armed forces, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Space Force. Millions of Americans have served in the military, both during wartime and in times of peace. When their time in uniform ends, they return to civilian life as neighbors, teachers, business owners, and family members.
