When people imagine the Middle Ages, they often think of exciting medieval towns filled with noisy market squares, colorful banners, and busy shops. It sounds like an adventure, but the truth is very different. If I had to travel back in time, I would choose to live on a countryside manor every single time. Living on a manor was far safer, cleaner, and healthier than trying to survive the stinky, dangerous streets of a medieval town.

Glossary
manor:

chamber pots:

pedestrians:
People who are walking on foot rather than traveling in a vehicle.
sludge:
A thick, wet, and messy mixture of mud and waste.
thatch:
Dried straw or plant stalks used to cover a roof.
grueling:
Extremely tiring, difficult, and demanding.
