Winter's Kind Words
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Tod. Tod liked to be mean. There was another boy named Winter. Winter was very kind.
Tod was often mean to other kids. He would say mean things. He would laugh when they felt sad.
One day, Winter saw Tod being mean. Winter wanted Tod to stop. Winter walked up to Tod.
"Hey," Winter said. "What you said was not nice."
Tod laughed. "Ha! What are you going to do? Cry?"
The other kids started to laugh too.
Winter said, "I know you had to say that to make yourself feel better. It's okay. I am happy for you."
Tod stopped laughing. He looked surprised.
The other kids said, "Oooooo!"
Tod felt embarrassed. He ran away.
Another boy, Jim, said, "That's why you don't mess with Winter!"
Winter smiled. He went back to playing with his friends. Winter knew that kind words were stronger than mean words.
